Spiaggia Porto Cervo
Physical
The beach adjacent to the Porto Cervo marina in the Costa Smeralda. The sand is white and fine, the water clear blue-green. Large yachts and superyachts are visible in the marina behind. The beach is clean and precisely maintained.
Social
One of the most exclusive beach environments in Europe. Access to beach clubs is expensive. The social dynamic is heavily about visibility, wealth, and status. Fashion, jewellery, and expensive equipment are all highly visible. In summer it functions as an outdoor display space for the ultra-wealthy.
Context
Porto Cervo was built from scratch in the 1960s as a planned luxury resort, with no previous settlement. It was designed by architects including Michele Busiri Vici and Jacques Couelle. It was designed to be exclusive from the beginning, not a natural place that became popular.
Environment
Heavily developed, precisely maintained beach adjacent to a large marina.
