Spiaggia Peschiera del Garda
Physical
A lake beach on the southern shore of Lake Garda at Peschiera, a fortified town built on an island in the lake. The beach is sandy and the water calm. The Venetian fortifications of the town are visible from the beach.
Social
A predominantly Central European tourist destination — Germans, Austrians, and Dutch make up the majority of visitors. Families with children, cyclists, and walkers. The lake culture here has a distinctly Northern European quality.
Context
Peschiera del Garda is a UNESCO World Heritage Site — one of the Venetian fortresses protecting the lagoon. The fortifications were built in the 16th century and later modified by the Austrians. The town now sits within a major tourist zone but its military heritage is still physically dominant.
