Spiaggia di Gabicce Mare
Physical
A sandy Adriatic beach at the northern tip of the Marche region, directly bordering the Romagna coast. The beach is flat, wide, and fully managed with stabilimenti. The town of Gabicce Mare sits immediately behind the seafront.
Social
Popular with young adults and families from Marche and Emilia-Romagna. The beach is part of the same social circuit as Riccione and Rimini to the north. Clubs and nightlife extend the beach culture into the evening.
Context
Gabicce Mare developed as a resort in the postwar period, following the Adriatic model of beach concessions. The nearby Baia Imperiale discotheque became one of the most famous nightclubs in Italy in the 1980s and 1990s.
Environment
Adriatic shoreline on the Romagna coastal-erosion stretch, subject to storm damage and periodic beach nourishment (ripascimento).
