Spiaggia di Francavilla al Mare

Francavilla al Mare · Abruzzo

Physical

A wide sandy beach on the Adriatic coast, just south of Pescara. The sand is golden-yellow and the shoreline is flat and open. Beach umbrellas and sun loungers are lined up in tight rows for most of its length.

Social

Mostly local families and Italian tourists from nearby towns. In summer it gets very busy, with people filling every spot under the umbrellas. It follows the typical Adriatic rhythm: arrive in the morning, eat at noon, rest, and leave by late afternoon.

Context

Francavilla al Mare has been a seaside resort since the late 1800s. The painter Francesco Paolo Michetti lived and worked here, and the town has a small artistic heritage. The coastline has faced steady erosion over the decades.

Environment

Coastal erosion documented.
