Le Gorette (Spot 1)
Physical
A sand spit north of Cecina, backed by pine woods and cut in two by a stone breakwater that runs straight out from the shore like a spine. On either side the water splits into distinct fields of colour, teal shading into deep blue, with the current visibly bending around the rocks.
Social
Mostly regional visitors and locals from nearby towns, a quieter, less codified crowd than the Versilia coast further north. Windsurf boards are pulled up in a row at the jetty's base, and umbrellas gather along its length rather than spreading evenly across the sand, people choosing the structure's shade and its current over open beach.
Context
Field survey opened in 2026 as the first documented point along this stretch — further spots planned as the area is mapped in more detail.
Environment
Stone breakwater alters natural sediment transport and current patterns along the sand spit.
