Spiaggia di Caorle
Physical
A sandy Adriatic beach beside the old fishing town of Caorle. The beach is flat and wide, with the typical Adriatic stabilimenti system. The cylindrical bell tower of the cathedral is visible from the beach. The town's coloured houses line the waterfront.
Social
A strong domestic and memory beach. Caorle has been a destination for families from Venice and the Veneto for generations. The same families return year after year. Austrian tourists have been coming here since at least the early 20th century.
Context
Caorle is a medieval port city that survived from the early Middle Ages as a separate settlement from Venice. The episcopal city structure — cathedral, canals, coloured houses — has been preserved. It became a seaside resort in the 20th century while retaining its urban identity.
Environment
Coastal erosion documented along this stretch of the Adriatic; the comune has carried out beach nourishment works to counter it.
