Sirolo
Physical
A hillside village above a series of small beaches on the Conero Riviera. The beaches below are accessed by steep paths and are pebbly and rocky. The water is very clear. The white limestone cliffs of Monte Conero rise directly above.
Social
A more select crowd than the main Adriatic resorts — people who want clear water and scenery, and are willing to make an effort to get there. Younger visitors, outdoor enthusiasts, and middle-class Italian tourists.
Context
The Conero Regional Natural Park protects the coast around Sirolo. The area's geology — white limestone cliffs — is unusual on the Adriatic. The protected status has limited development and maintained the natural quality of the shoreline.
Environment
Protected within the Conero Regional Natural Park; limestone cliff coastline largely undeveloped.
