The Ritual
Molo di Quercianella
Physical
The small pier of Quercianella, a compact village on the rocky Livorno coast. The pier is made of concrete and stone and extends a short distance into the sea. The water around it is clear.
Social
A meeting point for residents of Quercianella — people walk here in the evening, fish from the edge, watch the sunset. Like many small coastal piers, it functions as the social centre of the seafront.
Context
Quercianella is a small village that developed as a bathing resort for Livorno residents in the late 19th century. The pier was built as a landing point and has remained a local landmark. The village retains a quieter and more intimate character than the city of Livorno.
Environment
Rocky shoreline with a built concrete and stone pier.
