The Edge
Marina Serra
Physical
A small natural cove cut into the limestone near Tricase in the deep Salento. The water is enclosed and very clear, the rock pale and smooth. Access is difficult. There is almost no infrastructure.
Social
A local secret beach, used mostly by people from nearby villages and a small number of visitors who seek it out specifically. Quiet and self-organising. The challenge of access acts as a natural filter.
Context
Part of the Salento coast that remained largely undeveloped due to its rocky terrain. The geological formation — a natural sea inlet cut into calcarenite limestone — is characteristic of this coastline. The place has no particular documented history.
Environment
Rocky, erosion-resistant limestone coastline with little development.
