Feriolo, Lago Maggiore
Physical
A small lake beach on the western shore of Lake Maggiore. The shore has a mix of sand, gravel, and grass. The Alps are visible in the background. The lake is wide at this point and the opposite shore is in Switzerland.
Social
Families from the surrounding Piedmontese towns and occasional tourists. The lake beach culture is a scaled-down version of the sea beach — umbrellas, sun loungers, children in the water — but with a more local and intimate character.
Context
Lake Maggiore has been a resort destination since the 19th century, favoured by the European aristocracy and upper class. The western shore remained more modest and locally oriented than the more famous Stresa area. Feriolo is a quiet village with a small campsite tradition.
