Circolo Canottieri
Physical
A rowing club (circolo canottieri) on the Castiglioncello seafront. The building and dock are visible from the water. Small boats and kayaks are moored alongside. The setting is the typical rocky Tuscan coast.
Social
Members of the rowing club and their guests. A private social space that overlaps with the coastal environment. The physical activity of rowing creates a different relationship with the sea than static beach use.
Context
Circoli canottieri have been a feature of Italian coastal culture since the late 19th century, originally associated with bourgeois leisure. They persist as a specific form of organised coastal social club, mixing sport with social membership. Note: an earlier version of this record mistakenly carried the Rosignano industrial taxonomy code — there is no industry or toxicity here, only rowboats and a private club on the seafront.
Environment
Rocky Tuscan shoreline with a private rowing-club dock; no industrial activity at this site.
