The Body
Bagno delle Donne
Physical
A small cove at Talamone, overlooked by the Rocca (fortress) on the hill above.
Social
Used today by a mixed local community, though the site's name preserves the memory of a very different social arrangement.
Context
The name 'Bagno delle Donne' ('Women's Bath') documents a sex-segregated bathing rule abolished about seventy years ago. The Rocca di Talamone still looks down on the same stretch of water; the sea hasn't changed, but the rules governing it have.
